All operators of Clean Surface Blasters must be aware that they are using a system which uses two hazardous media:

  • Compressed Air
  • Dry Ice or Solid Carbon Dioxide

It is the responsibility of the user of all equipment supplied by Clean Surface to study the Heath and Safety regulations relating to the use of both media and to further ensure that:

  • All personnel in the area where blasting is taking place are aware of the routing of the high pressure compressed air hoses from their source to the blaster and from the blaster to the blast nozzle and that they are properly trained in the supervision and maintenance of all such hoses and are also trained to deal with any emergencies resulting from their use.
  • Their dry ice supplier provides adequate warning notices for all persons likely to come into contact with the material.

Clean Surface Ltd is not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from the use of the blast equipment or caused by the compressed air supply prior to it entering the blaster or resulting from physical damage to the compressed air hose between the blaster and the blast nozzle. In addition, any loss or damage caused to property and persons by the blasting process itself, the use or storage of dry ice or compressed air remains the full responsibility of the user. All information on safety is given in these instructions as guidance only to assist users in identifying the hazards of using a dry ice blasting system and is given without liability for its correctness or completeness.

IMPORTANT GUIDANCE ON HANDLING COMPRESSED AIR:

  • Always check compressed air hoses for damage along their entire length including the fittings before use. NEVER use damaged hoses or fittings
  • Ensure that compressed air hoses are positioned kink free and without tension and kept safely away from sharp or hot obstacles or machines with moving parts. NEVER drive over compressed air hoses with any form of vehicle.
  • Always double check that fittings are tightened correctly and the hoses are safely laid out before opening the main compressed air supply valve.

IMPORTANT GUIDANCE ON HANDLING DRY ICE:

  • Never store dry ice in a gas tight container. The sublimation process will cause the container to explode.
  • Do not allow dry ice to come into contact with bare skin. It can cause frostbite.
  • Ensure always to wear insulated gloves when handling dry ice, and make sure it does not spill into your clothing.
  • Never add dry ice to water or any other liquid
  • Always keep the dry ice in the container in which it was supplied. Store these containers in a well ventilated area, never in a closed room or cellar.

Always keep your suppliers safety data sheet to hand in the blasting area and ensure all operators likely to come into contact with the material have read the safety information before opening the container.
